Oceans cover more than 70% of our entire planet and hold 94% of all life on Earth. And they’re increasingly threatened by climate change and human activity and interference. Here in Washington, as well as around the world, we were devastated to hear about the declining population of Southern Resident Killer Whales. Orcas are key members of the Pacific Northwest food chain, affecting other species’ health as well as plant life.
We at Apple State Vinegar were inspired to create a product that honored the interconnectedness of the environment we live in. The apples used in our apple cider vinegar are grown organically in Washington. Organic agriculture is key in supporting a healthy ocean ecosystem, since toxic runoff from conventional farms can be damaging to marine life.
Apple State Vinegar gives back to the earth through ethical farming practices, and we also give back to amazing organizations that do grassroots action to protect our beautiful oceans for years to come. It’s our real pleasure and honor to partner with:
SR3. SR3 is a Washington-based organization that “advances the health and welfare of marine life in the Pacific Northwest.” They free sea lions and whales from entanglement, work with diverse community entities, and are working to build the Pacific Northwest’s first marine wildlife speciality hospital. 
Puget Soundkeeper. Puget Soundkeeper is another Washington-based organization that advocates for clean water through weekly ocean monitoring and enforcement of the Clean Water Act. They keep a well-trained eye out for illegal pollution, educate youth in conservation and environmental stewardship, and are deeply involved in policy and civic engagement.
SeaDoc Society. SeaDoc Society conducts research in the Salish Sea, focusing on turning groundbreaking science into action. Their current projects include orca health, wildlife disentanglement, and research on the effects of chemicals and petroleum on marine life. The SeaDoc Society says it best themselves: “We think of ourselves as arbiters of truth in matters of ocean health, and it's a role we take seriously.”
As we begin 2020, we feel more committed and connected to our environment than ever before. We donate a portion of our sales to these three organizations in the hopes that businesses, non-profits, legislators, and scientists can collaborate to create healthy, sustainable ecosystems.
